TCA converted the former single-sex women’s toilet room to serve all genders in San Francisco, CA.  Stalls are all concealed behind a smooth black millwork wall made of a highly durable P-Lam, specifically selected to mimic a lacquered wood finished and to match the Lobby Bar paneling. Inside, each stall is flush-framed with sound-proof 8 foot high doors.  Two-inch square LED down-lights decorate the ceiling and a contemporary concrete ramp-type sink lines an adjacent wall.

This project is designed as a modern abstraction of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne in response to the existing historical Art Deco building on-site.  It is a contrast between today and the modern times of the 1920s.  The existing building is regular in shape, formulaic in its façade rhythm of pilasters and decorative cornice.  The new retail building façade meanders from floor to floor and the shopfront glazing layout varies in width and transparency in relationship.  This design characteristic is drawn across to the building where retail uses continue the street wall.  The building design reflects today’s notion of evoking motion with subtle reference to the past automobile culture. Reinforcing this theme is the assortment of material and transparency with the enhanced panels shift in various directions.  The dynamic façade of the retail continues to the most prominent corner on the site by engaging the tower to the highest reaches of the building that is visibly celebrated with views of Los Angeles.

This mixed use project, designed for a leading nationwide residential developer was submitted to the City of Oakland in response to an RFP for a prominent site in the City’s burgeoning Uptown district. The City required the applicants’ proposals include a hotel, and TCA responded with a 135 room boutique-style business hotel extending the full length of the property on Telegraph Avenue. Gracious ground floor public programing extends the length of the street-front and wraps both side streets affording food and beverage service, lounge and check-in functions visible to passers-by through generous floor-to-ceiling glazing. Additional functions include meeting space, fitness center, and a rooftop bar.

Inspired by the natural beauty and surf culture of the California coast, the renovation for the Hyatt Regency La Jolla’s restaurant and public spaces is a fresh, modern approach to the interior design. Vibrant colors paired with calming, neutral tones provide a look unique to California; it exudes the casual and cool ambiance often associated with the region. The bar and dining coexist in an inclusive space that allows for flexibility in use and efficiency in service. In the city of San Jose a new 280 key hotel tower is planned for the property immediately adjacent to the former Montgomery Hotel, now operating as a Four Points by Sheraton hotel – a Starwood brand. The Montgomery, built in 1911, in the Italianate Commercial style, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The designers were challenged to integrate the hotel functions with the new tower while preserving and enhancing the historic value of the existing building. The new tower will rise adjacent to the historic building, defining a tall slender atrium space, and then cantilever out over the historic structure beginning on the 7th level. The new hotel is expressed in a modern style with floor to ceiling curtainwall glazing. A rooftop pool terrace, events pavilion and fitness club compliments the hotel program.

We are a league of forward thinkers.
